My Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is grounded in the idea that every student who walks in the door is trusting me with their future. It is my job to ensure that every child is seen and met where they are at, both academically and socially. My classroom will be a safe place for my students, rooted in mutual respect, empathy, and putting the person first. My goal academically is to offer challenging and diverse learning opportunities that draw students to engage with content and grow throughout the year. I hope for every student to find joy in the learning that we do and to leave my class confident in their ability to learn.
To see how I will connect my philosophy with best practices, please look at my Synthesis Paper from a Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment course (below).
Classroom Management Philosophy
My philosophy for classroom management stems from the philosophies of Wong and Love and Logic. I want to emphasize procedures from the first day as is taught by Wong. I will set clear expectations to guide students to successful and safe learning. The procedures will allow me to offer choices in the classroom and give freedom in their learning. With the follow-through of these procedures, I appreciate the philosophy of Love and Logic. I will use empathy and logical consequences to allow discipline to be a natural process, while maintaining a positive relationship with the students and avoiding power struggles. Through procedures and natural consequences, I hope to create a safe and joyful learning environment for each individual student.
